Some great reads for the parents looking to adventure with their children;
AMC White Mountain Guide Book, 29th Edition: The most comprehensive trail guide for the White Mountains; this is a must have. It comes with great trail maps of the area and the trail descriptions are excellent to share with kids before, and after, the hike. By sharing the description they become part of the process, and can prepare mentally for the hike. By re-reading them after the hike we all get better at visualizing guidebook descriptors. If you have an old edition now is a great time to update as Hurricane Irene (August, 2011) made some significant changes to many trails, access roads, etc, and this edition accounts for them.
Up: A Mother and Daughter’s Peakbagging Adventurer: I picked this up after seeing this trailer on a friends Facebook Wall. Definitely an inspiring read!
Free-Range Kids, How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry): Disclaimer, I haven’t read this yet! My wife is reading it and I am next in line. She needs to read it more than me though (don’t tell her I said that!) I will update this after I have had a chance to read it, but after skimming it I am sure it is worthy of being mentioned here!
Many more to come…
